3 Tips to Be More Sustainable This Earth Day

Happy Earth Day!

Today marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, which was founded in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson. Here are some simple ways you can make a difference this Earth Day, and year-round, even while under Quarantine:

1. Go Paperless: It saves trees and you’re more likely to be organized online in the process.

  • Try to avoid printing: If you need to print, always print-double sided to conserve paper.
  • When you do use paper, make sure you use 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper.

2. Reduce Energy: While stuck at home, I’m sure we all have been using up a lot of energy, whether that be powering laptops for online school or work, or watching news on the TV. It’s very important to keep in mind to use as little energy as possible, so we conserve as much energy as possible in the long run.
  • Turn off and unplug electronics when not in use. Also, don’t forget to power down your computer at the end of the day.
  • Turn off the lights when you leave the room

3. Save water: This one’s a big one. Water does not last forever; it will eventually dwindle out if we use it excessively. However, conserving water now will allow everyone in the world to have their share as well.

  • Run the dishwasher when it’s full so that way you can save water and energy!
  • Take 5-minute showers to conserve water.
  • Wash clothes when you have a full load of laundry to save water and energy as well!

Doing our part, even if it may seem small, makes a huge difference in the long run to conserve our Earth. Let’s do our best to keep our home clean and healthy!
